Rescue Operations
Advanced Level
14 Hours
The following assignments have been completed by the student and was evaluated by an instructor certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection or an approved individual or instructor under State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association standards:
q 9-03.01 The firefighter, operating as a member of a team, shall demonstrate the proper techniques and safety procedures as they apply to the following rescue activities:
o Structural collapses
o Trench collapses
o Caves and tunnels
o Water and ice emergencies
o Elevators and escalators
o Emergencies involving energized electrical lines
o Industrial accidents
o Motor vehicle accidents
o Other hazards particular to the local jurisdiction
q 9-03.02 The firefighter, given a 20’ tubular webbing, shall demonstrate the proper tying of a Swiss seat.
q 9-03.03 The firefighter, given the proper information, shall list the equipment needed to complete rappelling procedure
q 9-03.04 The firefighter, given a 20’ length of rope, shall demonstrate the following knots: as used in repelling:
o Figure-eight
o Figure-eight follow through
o Bowline
o Clove hitch
o Half-hitch
q 9-03.05 The firefighter shall identify the techniques of removing debris, rubble, and other materials found at a cave-in and list the precautions to be taken when constructing rescue shafts and tunnels where large debris is involved
q 9-03.06 The firefighter, given the proper information, shall define the following:
o Lean-to collapse
o Pancake floor collapse
o V-floor collapse
q 9-03.07 The firefighter shall assume command of a simulated rescue operation in the absence of a company officer
